Merry Christmas from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!
|
Merry Christmas from all the staff, volunteers and residents at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in 2023 - the Team couldn´t do the vital conservation work without you!
|
Chris Pratt, Emma Watson, Sienna Miller and Tom Felton have spent a month or so in the outside pools and have now fully recovered and are at the perfect weight of 30+kg, ready to thrive back in the wild! They were released on 1st of December 2023 at Perranuthnoe beach in South Cornwall.

Pup Update - 9th December 2023 : Fiyero along with Sienna Miller, Selwyn (photo below - she loves to say hello to visitors through the underwater window), Morlo, Yasmin Finney, Ana De Armas, Celia Imrie and Morgan Freeman are now in the outside pools.
This means they are on the road to recovery and mixing with each other also have deeper pools to swim in. Pups in the outside pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting and competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.
Photo below of Selwyn was taken by George Tyrone Deacon - British Divers Marine Life Rescue
|
We can safely say that Fiyero (photo below) is a noisy one and absolutely loves the water!
|
Morlo and Selwyn have completed their rehabilitation and were released back into the wild on 14th of December 2023 at Dollar Cove which is a short 15 minutes drive from the Sanctuary.

Pleeeeaaaasssseeeee Sponsor me and my friends while we stay temporarily for a few months at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary receiving excellent care by the lovely Animal Care Team. We are getting stronger eating lots of fish and your favourite resident seal, Ray, keeps giving us Pups a hard stare, as he thinks there are none left for him - this is me...giving him the look back! Please help the Sanctuary to look after us!

A Big Thank You to a local Company for Towels
|
A huge thank you to Martyn Slyfield and the team from Elis, a local laundry company from Pool, Camborne, who very kindly donated 100 towels to the animal care team!
These towels will used all throughout the pup season for the treatment of the rescued seal pups, and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary couldn´t be more grateful for their fantastic support??
With 50-70 injured, abandoned and sick seal pups coming through the Sanctuary´s doors each season, the team need your help to continue providing the vital care and supplies needed to aid their rehabilitation and return them to the sea where they belong.

Each released seal pup is given a flipper tag with an unique ID number. This helps the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust (CSGRT) to track and monitor where pups end up and how they are doing once they are back in the wild.

The information regarding tagged seals seen in the wild is copyright of the CSGRT.
By monitoring the behaviour of seals after release back into the wild, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the CSGRT can use this information to define the best practice standards and policies that they can share with the international rescue community.
Each seal´s fur pattern is unique and enables the CSGRT volunteers track them for life.
Seals face many challenges, yet we all depend on them to balance our marine ecosystem, which is essential to make the oxygen we breathe.
Seals are our globally rare wildlife tourist attraction, helping diversify coastal economic prosperity.
