Tom Felton was rescued on 2nd October 2023

The 3 week old male (whitecoat) grey pup was rescued during the early evening on 2nd of October 2023 after he was found on the beach by the steps in Porthmeor beach near St Ives Bay by members of the public.

Alison and Phil, Volunteer medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), were called to go and check on the pup.   As the state of the sea was not great, the medics quickly carried the little pup up to safety for assessment.

The Pup´s temperature was a little low and he was only 12.1kg which is very small for his age. As it was by now 8pm, the BDMLR coordinator arranged for the pup to be taken to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for care, treatment and rehabilitation.

He was handed over by BDMLR medics in the Sanctuary´s car park outside the main reception.   All new seal pup arrivals have to be tested for avian flu before admittance due to the risk to resident animals, especially the penguins.

This little guy was brought to the hospital after being separated from his mum, he was malnourished and very underweight.   Also he was suffering from a few small wounds.   The pup has been named "Tom Felton" in line with the Sanctuary´s celebrity theme for the 2023/24 rescue season.
