Morgan Freeman was rescued on 11th November 2023

Morgan Freeman, a 6 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued on the 11th of November 2023 from Porthgwidden Beach in St Ives by Tash and Alison, volunteer marine mammals medics, from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR).

The pup was found with a high temperature of 38.9C and what looked like a bad injury to the left rear flipper, scratches on the belly around the umbilical cord area, quite lethargic but with a weight of 21kg.

A decision was made to rescue the pup and take him to the BDMLR´s seal hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care until a pen was available for her at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek on the 22nd of November 2023.

Update - 10th December 2023 : Morgan is now in the outside nursery and rehabilitation pools, this means he is on the road to recovery and mixing with other seal pups, also has a deeper pool to swim in.   Pups in the outside pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.
