Renée Zellweger was rescued on 20th November 2023

Renée Zellweger, an 8 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from Bovisand in Plymouth on the 20th of November 2023 by volunteer marine mammals medics of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR). She was found malnourished with deep infected laceration on her lower back and belly.

This pup was taken to the BDMLR´s seal hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care until a pen was available a few days later on 27th of November 2023 for her at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek where she continues her rehabilitation journey.

Update - 3rd December 2023 : Renée is making fantastic progress and is already eating by herself.   This little pup now needs to focus on putting on some weight and finishing the course of her treatment so she can return to the wild.   Her flipper ID tag number is SL268 yellow.

Update - 3rd January 2024 : Renée spent a few weeks in the hospital before she was moved down to the outside nursery pools. Now Renée is in the outside pools, this means she is on the road to recovery and mixing with other seal pups, also has a deeper pool to swim in.   Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.
