Every year, grey seal pup season brings new challenges, inspiring rescue stories and incredible conservation successes to the Cornish coast. At the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, our expert Animal Care Team works around the clock from autumn through to spring, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing vulnerable grey seal pups that have become injured, orphaned or separated from their mothers. With decades of experience, pup season is our busiest and most important time of year.

A seal pup who became the face of a conversation about bycatch has been released back to the wild by the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
Hot Cross Bun was rescued on the 10th of April 2026 from Nanjizal after members of the public reported him entangled in rope netting. Luckily volunteer marine mammal medics from British Divers Marine Life Rescue were able to rush to help, safely remove the net and deliver the poorly pup for urgent attention at the Seal Sanctuary.

RUN FOR BANANA : CHARITY APPEALS FOR LAST-MINUTE RUNNERS TO HELP FUND LIFELONG CARE FOR BELOVED RESCUE SEAL

A rescued seal who requires lifelong specialist care is at the heart of a fundraising appeal as the Cornish Seal Sanctuary makes a final call for participants to sign up for its "Sprint for Seals" event.
Banana, one of the sanctuary´s most recognisable residents, was rescued as a pup but cannot be released back into the wild due to a neurological condition that causes seizure-like episodes similar to epilepsy.

After weeks of relentless rain and storms, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary is thrilled to announce the successful release of nine of their rehabilitated seal pups. Last week, Jelly, Fika, Panettone, Panacotta, Mochi, Cheesecake, Sierra, Roulade and Christmas Pudding, finally went home after months of care at the Sanctuary, marking a hopeful turning point in the busy pup season.

STORMY WEATHER DELAYS SEAL PUP RELEASES AS CALL OUTS SURGE ACROSS CORNWALL

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is experiencing a sharp increase in seal pup call outs following the recent storm affecting Cornwall, with several reports coming in each day from across the county´s coastline.
Working closely with British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), the Sanctuary´s rescue and hospital teams are responding to growing numbers of seals in difficulty. As a result, the Sanctuary´s hospital is currently at full capacity, with space only becoming available once rehabilitated pups can be released back into the wild.
