Pilchard was rescued on 14th December 2020
Pilchard, a 10 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued on 14th December 2020 from Hollywell Bay beach by marine mammal medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR).

The pup was found underweight, exhausted and very cold.

He was taken to one of the BDMLR´s holding facilities and stayed there until 23rd December 2020 when a pen became available at the Sanctuary´s seal hospital.

Pilchard Update - 29th December 2020 : Pilchard is slowly putting on weight, it will not be too long before he is moved to the outside nursery pools for his next stage of rehabilitation.

Update - 27th January 2021 : Pilchard is now in the outside nursery pools to learn how to compete for fish during feeding time with other rescued seal pups. He currently weighs 25.5kgs.

His flipper tag ID number is SL126 (green).
Update : 2nd March 2021 - Pilchard, along with Chips, Basil, Sushi and Poppadom have completed their rehabilitation and the time came for them to be released back into the wild from Dollar Cove on 1st March 2021.
