Paddock Animals
The Valais Blacknose Wether Sheep (Ovis aries) - These are rare breed sheep that originate from the Valais canton of Switzerland. Native to the Upper Valais region, the Blacknose graze in the Alps in the summer months June-September and lower pastures in the winter. The Blacknose is a sturdy breed well adapted to the harsh conditions of the mountains.

There is evidence that the Blacknose has existed since the 15th century. Over time, characteristics have evolved to the majestic sheep we see today!

The Valais Blacknose Wether Sheep joined the site at the end of Summer 2022 to help manage the Sanctuary´s grass, with owner Katie leasing the area for these very special rare-breed sheep.

Ira, Komper, Iona and Islay are part of the herd of Valais Blacknose Wether Sheep in the Sanctuary´s Paddocks!
