Hairy Henry was rescued on 25th January 2025

Hairy Henry, a 3-4 months old male grey seal pup, was rescued on the 25th of January 2025 from Porthminster in St Ives by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) volunteer marine mammal medics.

The young seal pup was found with wounds to his body and malnourished for his age.

A decision was made to take this pup to the BDMLR´s seal hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care until a pen was available on the 10th of February 2025 for him at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek where he continues his rehabilitation journey.

Update - 16th February 2025 : Henry spent a few days in the Sanctuary´s hospital before he was moved down to the outside pool for his next stage of rehabilitation.   This means he is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.

Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.

Henry´s flipper ID tag number is SL325 (yellow).
