Pups Update : 21st September 2025 - S´mores spent just over 2 weeks in the hospital before she was moved down to the outside pool on the 19th of September 2025 for her next stage of rehabilitation.   This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in and to explore.   Click here to see a selection of photos of S´mores taken on the 19th and 20th September 2025.

Pups Update : 21st September 2025 - Say hello to Meringue, a female seal grey seal pup, rescued by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue from Widemouth Bay on the 4th of September 2025.   She was found on a busy beach exhausted after being washed around in the rough seas and separated from her mum. She spent a night being stabilised at a veterinary practice in Bude before she was transferred to the Sanctuary´s hospital the next day.   This seal pup had superficial ulcers in both eyes and a fresh umbilicus which meant she was less than 3 days old.   The Sanctuary´s vet prescribed a course of antibiotics and eye drops and regular cleaning of her umbilicus, along with fish soup every 4 hours. Meringue´s eyes are now healed and has started being fed whole fish which she loves!   She is gaining weight but still occasionally feels the cold so the animal care team sometimes needs to put the heat lamp on in her hospital pen.   Once Meringue is big enough she can have supervised swims to prepare her for moving to the outdoor pools for the next stage of her rehabilitation.

Pups Update : 28th September 2025 - Say hello to Waffle, a female seal grey seal pup, rescued by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue from a beach in St Ives Bay on the 22nd of September 2025.   She was in good body condition but had several deep wounds to her neck and flippers which the animal care team specialists are keeping clean.   One of the wounds on Waffle´s rear right flipper is infected and is being monitored closely.   She is due for an xray soon on her flipper to see if she needs surgery.   Whilst Waffle´s wounds are healing, she is being taught how to eat whole fish ready for the next stage of rehabilitation.   Once Waffle´s wound have healed and she can have a swim in her hospital pool, but for now, she needs to rest as much as possible.

It is with heavy hearts that the Cornish Seal Sanctuary shared the passing of our much-loved puffin, Cliff, who sadly died after a sudden illness on Friday 5th September 2025. The animal care team at the Sanctuary, alongside the Rosevean veterinarian team, worked tirelessly to give Cliff the best care possible, but unfortunately, we lost Cliff to a very sudden and short illness.   We are currently awaiting post-mortem results to understand the cause of his illness. It is never easy to lose one of our family, and it is especially difficult for the animals left behind.   Cliff made quite the entrance when he arrived at Puffin Island and Billie quickly became his biggest fan.   Last year they partnered up and were inseparable ever since.   His passing has been particularly hard for her, but our animal care team are making sure that she is receiving all the extra love and care she needs.   Click here to read more.

A huge thank you to the wonderful people (and Archie??) who joined us for our Coverack beach clean on Thursday 4th of September!   Together we collected 6kg of rubbish! We finished the morning with some well-deserved treats from @bayhotelcoverack the perfect way to round off a great effort. Keep an eye out for details of our next beach clean, the Team would love to see you there!
