Merry Christmas from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!
|
A huge thank you to everyone who donated to "Stockings For Seals" this year - every penny goes towards enriching the lives of the residents here at the Sanctuary and the Team couldn´t do it without you.

Did you get a chance to visit the Sanctuary´s nature walk and also to read about how the resident beaver, Norbert, learnt a very special lesson this Christmas? It is truly a beautiful story!

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) Volunteer marine mammal medics will be sent out to monitor the pup for a period of time and as a very last resort, may rescue the pup depending on the circumstances.

Fantastic Fundraiser - Olive Curtis!
|
A huge thank you to one of the Sanctuary´s fantastic fundraiser, Olive Curtis, who raised almost £400 in November for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary!
Olive loved visiting the Sanctuary in October for her 9th birthday so much she decided to get involved and completed a litter pick in her local area, designed a card, painted stones with seals on and baked seal shaped biscuits to sell at a craft fair.
The team and residents would like to say "Many thanks to Olive and her mum, Fay, for the lovely pictures and for being such a seal superhero!"
|
A huge thank you to Nestera for providing the Seal Sanctuary with new herd boards - engraved with the logo!??
Nestera has very kindly donated the boards to help the team with the pup rescues and releases, and the staff are absolutely thrilled with the results.
Can your team help the Team this pup season? Email leanne.webb@sealifetrust.com to find out how your business can support the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, too!

| Post Release Monitoring of Seals
|
Each released seal pup is given a flipper tag with an unique ID number. This helps the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust (CSGRT) to track and monitor where pups end up and how they are doing once they are back in the wild.
This month the following seals were spotted in the wild by members of the CSGRT from Somerset to Dorset:-
Wonder Woman on 1st and 5th December 2022
Orion on 5th, 8th, 9th, 15th and 26th December 2022
Nampara on 8th, 12th and 21st December 2022
Goonies and Guinness on 12th December 2022
Riley on 15th December 2022
Joy Division on 15th and 20th December 2022
Hufflepuff on 19th, 28th and 30th December 2022
Poppadom, Shirley and
Shuttle on 21st December 2022
|
By monitoring the behaviour of seals after release back into the wild, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and the CSGRT can use this information to define the best practice standards and policies that they can share with the international rescue community.
Each seal´s fur pattern is unique and enables the CSGRT volunteers track them for life.
Seals face many challenges, yet we all depend on them to balance our marine ecosystem, which is essential to make the oxygen we breathe.
Seals are our globally rare wildlife tourist attraction, helping diversify coastal economic prosperity.

The wonderful news is...she is still being ID´d today after 21 amazing years in the wild!!! Healthy and Thriving.
By monitoring the behaviour of seals after release back into the wild, the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust, BDMLR and CSS, can use this information to define the best practice standards and policies for rescue, rehab and release that are shared with the international rescue community.
