Gherkin was rescued on 12th April 2021

Gherkin, a 5 months old male grey seal pup, was rescued from Seaton near Looe on 12th April 2021 by marine mammal medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR).
The pup was taken to one of the BDMLR´s holding facilities and stayed there until a pen became available at the Sanctuary´s seal hospital.

He was found underweight, ruckly breathing, sore eyes and signs of lung worm.
The pup was brought to the Sanctuary´s and given a course of antibiotics and received eye treatment.

Update : 16th May 2021 - Gherkin is now in the outside nursery pool with another rescued seal pup to learn how to socialise and compete for his food, after which he can be moved to the larger rehabilitation pool. He currently weighs 23.5kgs.
His flipper tag ID number is SL151 (green).

Update : 16th June 2021 - Noodle along with Gherkin and Jambalaya have completed their rehabilitation and were released back into the wild on 11th June 2021 at Dollar Cove.
