Winky was rescued on 13th December 2009
On the 13th December 2009 the Sanctuary received a phone call about a seal in trouble, the caller reported a very thin pup on the beach at Porth in Newquay.

As this pup is a little girl, she has been named ‘Winky’. She has an ulcer to her left eye, the eye may have to be removed but at the moment we are trying everything possible to save it. Winky has scuffs to her nail beds, was extremely dehydrated also suffering from mouth ulcers. Winky is receiving treatment and making improvements everyday.
Winky Update: 2nd January 2010 - Winky is still in the hospital, her eye is slowing getting better and our vet keeping regular check ups we need to know how much vision, if any, is now left in her eye that was infected. The vet will be doing a pressure test to assess this.

Update: 24th January 2010 - Winky has been moved to the outside convalescent pool and weighs 26 kg. Her flipper tag number is 023 (light blue).
Update: 28th February 2010 - This photo of Winky was taken on 27th February 2010 in the convalescent pool.    Click here to see further photos.
