PEBBLES - Rescued on 8th October 2006
The Sanctuary received a call on Sunday morning 8th October 2006 about a pup on Gwithian beach that needed help. The caller said it was a white coat and was moving across the beach towards the Red River. The Sanctuary called Rachael at home and the BDMLR and both headed out to the beaches.

Rachael was first on the scene and called the Sanctuary straight away to confirm it was a white coat and to be a week or so old. Rachael was met on the beach by Dave who had brought a cage along to transport the pup in back to the Sanctuary.

The seal was a little girl and was named Pebbles and was around 10 days to 2 weeks old. She weighed around 20 kilos and was a little dehydrated.

Pebbles was given fluids for the first 24 hours, and will move on to multi milk, but will soon be put on to fish soup. Pebbles is on a course of antibiotics as a precaution.
Hospital Update: 27th October 2006 - Pebbles has now finally moulted and being force fed fish, she is very bright and receiving eye drops, hopefully in the water by the end of week. However, on 25th October 2006 we had another call about a pup that needed help, so we had to move Pebbles from hospital 4 down in to the outside nursery pool 2 to join Roo and Koko. Pebbles, had just finished her eye treatment and was happy feeding by herself, she seems unfazed by the suddened move, and is doing well.

Hospital Update: 17th November 2006 - Pebbles was moved into the convalescent pool and settled in straight aways. She can been seen at feeding times rushing around the pool catching fish.
Pebbles´ orange flipper tag number is 04.
