Lisa was only 1 - 2 days old when we rescued her - she still had her umbilical cord attached!

We had some stormy weather at this time - which resulted in some pups being separated from their mothers. Being separated from their mothers at this early age is extremely dangerous for the pups as they depend on their mother for milk.
Lisa was checked into our hospital, and we found that she had a low level of glucose in her blood - possibly because she had not fed in a while. We cleaned her up, gave her glucose and started her on a precautionary anti-biotic treatment. She is being fed our special "multi-milk" which contains all the nutrients she needs!

Update : 1st July 2011 - Lisa has been putting on weight and has now finished her treatments, so now we are starting the "weaning" process: from milk to whole herring! She had her first fish today, and we will gradually give her more each day.
To get the pups used to whole herring, we force-feed them the fish.

Update : 5th July 2011 - After only 4 days of weaning Lisa is now hand feeding on whole herring!
This shows that she is really enjoying the fish and is well on her way to a full rehabilitation.

Update : 21st July 2011 - Lisa now eats whole herring on her own! The staff now only have to throw the fish into her pen and Lisa just helps herself. This is a very big step for Lisa; she is eating all by herself now and putting on a lot of weight - well on her way onto being an independent seal!
Update : 23rd July 2011 - Lisa now weighs 13.5kg - she must weigh 20kg before she can join our three resident adult seals to learn the fundamental skills of communicating with other seals and competing for food. |

Update: 21st August 2011 - This photo of Lisa was taken on 19th July 2011 in the outside seal enclosure. Lisa is in this pool to learn to compete for fish with other seals.
Lisa´s flipper tag number is 01 (white).

Update: 28th October 2011 - Lisa along with the other six rescued seal pups are going to be released in November 2011!
They are fully rehabilitated and the animal care team are certain that it´s time for these little ones to go
back to the wild. |

Update: 18th November 2011 - Lisa along with Robbie, Vicky, Katy, Linda, Simon and Tracey were returned to the wild on 16th November 2011 at Snettisham beach as featured on ITV´s Daybreak programme. Click here to watch the video on Daybreak.
