Urchin was rescued on 1st October 2021
Urchin is a female approximately 3 weeks old (whitecoat) grey seal pup that was rescued from Portreath beach on 1st October 2021 by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics.

She was found severely malnourised with a badly damaged and infected left eye. Weighed 14.5kgs.

This pup was taken to one of the BDMLR´s holding facilities until a pen was made available for her at the Sanctuary´s hospital on 4th October 2021.
Urchin Update : 23rd October 2021 - Unfortunately Urchin´s eye could not be saved and required to be removal. She is making a really good recovery and the eye is starting to heal but currently on antibiotics. This pup is feeling much more comfortable and enjoying tucking into fish! She weighs 18.5kgs.

Urchin´s flipper tag ID number is SL104 (white).

Update - 17th December 2021 : It is always sad to say a fond farewell to the rescued seal pups each season after their care and rehabilitation at the Seal Sanctuary.

This time the staff said "au revoir" to Urchin along with Moana, Nudibranch, Sea Cucumber, Puffin, Coral and Barley on 15th December 2021 at Dollar Cove.
