Timothee Chalamet was rescued on 26th March 2024

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary received a call from a concerned member of the public who came across a seal on the beach at Fishing Cove on the 26th of March 2024.
Members of the animal care specialist team were sent to check on the pup, they monitored the seal from a distance for a while to make sure that he was not just resting. After a while, they went to the seal and carried out a full assessment including giving electrolytes to rehydrate him. The seal pup was found to be malnourished and underweight for his age.
It was decided that the pup needed to be checked out by a vet, so they contacted the Sanctuary´s local vet, Head & Head Veterinary Practice and booked an appointment on route to the Seal Sanctuary.
The vet arrived at hospital soon after the pup arrived and carried out a full assessment, took a blood sample and provided a course of antibiotics to help with any infection. This male grey seal pup has been named Timothee Chalamet.

Update - 21st April 2024 : Timothee is currently being monitored to see whether he can eat without help from the animal care team. But he is looking forward to having a swim soon in his hospital pen and then been moved down to the outside nursery pools. These photos below were taken on the 19th of April 2024.

Update - 5th June 2024 : Timothee is still in the hospital pen number 4. These photos below were taken on the 31st of May and 1st of June 2024.

Update - 8th July 2024 : Timothee has been moved down to the outside nursery pools for his next stage of rehabilitation. This means he is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in. Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild. Update - 20th July 2023 : Timothee has sadly passed away on 9th July 2024; it is always very sad when one of the rescued pups dies but sometimes these little ones just
don´t have enough antibodies and strength in them to pull through, despite the best efforts of all the Sanctuary´s Animal Care Specialists.
