Meet Sundae on a Sunday...British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers were dispatched to check on a young seal pup on the beach in Porthgwarra.
Chris Webber, one of the volunteer medics, said "he was asked to check on a small pup, obviously came in with the high tide and decided to rest up on the slip. I was quickly joined by another volunteer medic, Amanda Payne. From visual assessment there were no visible injuries. Reporting back to the area coordinator, Alison, and it was advised that we did a full assessment on the grounds of looking a tad underweight".
Chris continues "Amanda jumped as I assessed. The pup´s temperature was 37.7oC. Her wounds became more apparent on closer inspection. Both her rear flippers had received injuries. Also front right flipper had an injury to one of its nail beds...Not serious! Weighing in at 15.2kg and consulting again with Alison. Sundae was admitted to BDLMR seal hospital".

Update - 24th November 2025 : Sundae spent 10 days at the BDMLR´s seal hospital until a pen was available on the 18th of November 2025 for her at the Sanctuary´s hospital in Gweek to continues her rehabilitation journey.
The seal pup spent just a few days in the hospital before she was moved down to the outside nursery pool for her next stage of rehabilitation. This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.
Sundae is sharing this nursery pool with another rescued seal pup named Todd, they are doing very well and learning how to compete for fish which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.
These photos below were taken in the nursery pool number 1 on the 23rd of November 2025.
Her flipper tag ID number is SL339 (yellow).
