| SEAL BAY OPENS - 28th July 2004

| | With last minute adjustments to the main enclosure door by the builders, just to make things perfect, "Seal Bay" was officially opened by local MP for Falmouth and Camborne, Candy Atherton. "Candy has always taken a keen interest in the work we do here at the Sanctuary, and has been one of our most committed supporters" said Manager Judy Williams.
|  | The improvements to the enclosure cost in the region of £50,000, took four months, 1,920 man hours, 2,000 concrete blocks and 120 tonnes of concrete to complete!
The pool is now 18 metres long and 6 metres wide and holds 200,000 litres of seawater.

| | The new enclosure includes a beach haul-out area that has been specially designed to mimic the seals natural environment. Improvements have also been made for the Visitors with acrylic viewing facilities fitted to the enclosure to allow the public, both old and young to come face to face with our residents!
|  | Some of the sanctuary staff from past and present were here at the Seal Bay to welcome Flipper and Yulelogs to their home. Even Ken Jones, the founder of the seal sanctuary, came along to check that his dear friend Flipper (photo right) was settling into his new environment.

| Flipper was one of Ken´s original seals who came from Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes and moved to Gweek in 1977.
"This is all part of our long term project to refurbish all the pools at the Sanctuary and create a more natural environment for all the residents" said Judy
"Now this pool is complete, we can start to look at plans to upgrade our California Sea Lion pool".
The Californian Sea Lion Pool is the last of the four resident enclosures which is still in need of improvements.
All of us at the Sanctuary would like to say a big thank you to all our visitors. Without their support none of this work would be possible, it is with the support of sponsors and kind donations that these new developments can go ahead and we hope that with your continued support, we can start work soon on the Californian Sea Lion pool.
As you can see from our "help us help them" board, we are well over half way through our plans to make our residents enclosures as natural as possible.
