Love is in the air on "Puffin Island"
|
As the much-anticipated new season of the hit reality show "Love Island" is due to start, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary have their own share of romantic dramas and love triangles to contend with on Puffin Island!
Love Island is a globally popular reality dating show where singles come together in a tropical villa to find love and compete for a grand prize. The show is known for its dramatic twists and romantic escapades.
Similarly, visitors to Puffin Island, Home to Rescued Puffins at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, over the next few weeks may witness puffins "graftin" to attract their partners. From building love nests together to performing puffin courtship dances, the Island is buzzing with puffin romance.

Animal Care Supervisor, Megan, comments "We have recently been noticing some very "Love Island-sque" behaviour from our group of rescue puffins here at the sanctuary. Our birds are on a mission to find their perfect puffin partners and a few of them are certainly "putting in the hours"!
We´ve witnessed Alma and Disa getting very cosy in the burrows displaying their love language by rubbing their beaks together, and Freyja and Thor have been presenting each other with gifts of salty fish and feathers, in a bid to be noticed.
However, the talk of the island is Lundi who seems to have had their head turned by Tyr when they were previously matched with Odin! This betrayal has certainly caused a bit of flap within the group. (Maybe they got the ick?!)
Unlike in the TV show, once a partner has been chosen, Puffins usually pair up for life, so this behaviour is certainly unusual to see!
We think that Puffin Island provides a perfect backdrop for the puffins´ romantic escapades and we´re loving getting to know them all with their own individual personalities."
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary are hoping that the puffin´s presence will highlight the importance of protecting these beloved little birds and their habitats. Alongside viewing the puffins up close, guests to Puffin Island can learn all about puffin conservation efforts and how they can contribute to preserving puffin populations for future generations.
