News of the extended lockdown sees the Sanctuary fearful over how will they continue to care for their animals

In the 60 years of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary being an animal rescue facility, they have never had to close their doors for such a long period of time.

With the necessary extension of the Coronavirus related lockdown in the UK, the Sanctuary is concerned over how they will continue to be able to cover the costs to feed and care for their animals.

News of the extended lockdown sees the Seal Sanctuary fearful over how will they continue to care for their animals Run by charity the SEA LIFE Trust, the Sanctuary is home to a variety of marine mammals, each with their own individual care and medical needs.

It costs £23,000 a month for their dedicated animal care team to feed, provide daily care, vital medicines and equipment to the Sanctuary´s residents.
As Cornwall´s only Seal Sanctuary, the Sanctuary has been an advocate for protecting marine mammals and our oceans, using the seals as ambassadors for their important educational message.

Welcoming over 100,000 visitors through their doors each year, with the Sanctuary now closed for at least a further 3 weeks, this loss of revenue is proving detrimental to the charity.

Our animal care team are working incredibly hard looking after the animals, and the few staff we have left are trying to save every single penny to ensure that we can get by day by day."

"It has been a really tough month for us, and with the extension to the lockdown, our concerns for the Sanctuary and the costs to look after the animals are extremely worrying."
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary have launched an appeal, which if successful would help to cover a month´s worth of food, daily care, vital medicines and equipment for the animals.

This would be an enormous help to the Sanctuary to continue looking after the animals in their care, especially with the majority of those animals requiring expensive daily medication.
