Mint was rescued on 19th February 2023

The Area Coordinator for British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) received a telephone call from a member of the public about a young seal pup on the causeway at St Michael´s Mount on Sunday morning (19th of February 2023).

Paul and Chris, BDMLR marine mammal medics, were despatched to check on the pup. The little fellas temperature was 35.8c, he had couple of cuts on his hind left flipper and his front flipper had a minor cut. Although he looked hydrated, his left eye was a bit goopy! It was decided that he should be taken to Sanctuary´s hospital for care and rehabilitation.

The animal care team named the pup, Mint, who was a 4 months old male grey seal.

The team checked him over and found he was found malnourished, underweight, with a high temperature and respiratory breathing problems.

Update - 1st March 2023 : Mint has sadly passed away on 22nd February 2023; it is always very sad when one of the rescued pups dies but sometimes these little ones just don´t have enough antibodies and strength in them to pull through, despite the best efforts of all the Animal Care Team.
