The seal pup was taken to the BDMLR´s seal hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care
until 10th of November 2025, when a pen became available for him at the Sanctuary´s hospital in Gweek where he will continue his rehabilitation journey.
Common seals are not seen often in Cornwall as they prefer more sheltered habitats such as estuaries and sandbanks. They are more likely to be spotted in areas along the Scottish and North Sea coast lines.

Update - 3rd December 2025 : Marshmallow was moved down to the outside pools for his next stage of rehabilitation. This means he is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.
Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.

Update - 18th January 2026 :
On a very foggy cold Sunday morning it was time for common seal, Marshmallow, to join Brownie and Angel Delight to be returned home back to the wild. These three seals were weighed to make sure they had reached the ideal target weight of 30+kg for the grey seals and 25kg for the common.
Marshmallow, Brownie and Angel Delight were loaded into the back of the vehicle from the rehabilitation pool and released back into the wild.
They confidently made their way into the surf, however, Marshmallow and Angel Delight stayed close to the beach for a while, kept coming back until their told to go and and disappeared beneath the waves. Although Angel Delight didn't want to go home. It is always a heart-warming moment that marks the successful end of their rehabilitation journey. We all wished them good luck and waved with tears in our eyes.
