Mantis Shrimp was rescued on 12th January 2017
Mantis Shrimp, female grey seal pup, was rescued on 12th January 2017 from Sandy Cove, Newlyn.

She was very quiet, malnourished, had a swelling to the left side of her face and a respiratory infection.

Update - 1st February 2017 : Paul Riley (Head & Head Veterinary Centre) prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories which soon began to do the trick!

Update - 1st March 2017 : Mantis Shrimp is currently in nursery pool 4 with two other rescued seal pups Gibbon and Koala. She is doing really well and putting on lots weight.

Mantis Shrimp´s flipper tag number is 333 (white).

Update - 9th April 2017 : Mantis Shrimp is still in the convalescent pool and putting on lots of weight before being returned to the wild in the next month or so.
Seal Release - 13th June 2017 Update - 15th June 2017 : Mantis Shrimp along with Caiman, Lobster, Fish and Flamingo were released on 13th June 2017 at Dollar Cove, Gunwalloe. The planned release is a major operation involving several members of the Sanctuary team.

The rehabilitation pool was drained, and then each pup was herded into a cage and then transferred to a trailer which was then driven onto the beach to be safely released. Click here to see a selection of photos of the release.
