Jennifer Aniston was rescued on 20th March 2024

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) received a telephone call very early in the morning on the 20th of March 2024 from a member of the public about a seal pup on the beach at Wherrytown in Penzance. The caller thought that the seal might be stuck on a rock/disturbed by dogs.
One of the area coordinators for South West Cornwall, arranged for volunteer marine mammal medics of BDMLR, to check on a seal. Upon arrival, the medics monitored from the recommended distance and videoing through binoculars, they spotted a nasty mouth injury. One of the medics did an excellent job calmly keeping people and barking dogs well away from the vicinity of the seal. Two further medics arrived, as the tide was coming in so the the quickly surrounded pup, bagged her and removed her to the safey of the car park. Vil, one of the medics, assessed and flushed out the pup´s infected injury with saline. After consultation with the head vet at the BDMLR, on her day off! A decision was made to take the seal to the BDMLR Cornwall Seal Hospital. She is just over 25kg and very bright!
A member of the public went and bought the BDMLR medics biscuits!
This pup was transferred to the BDMLR´s seal hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care until a pen was available for her at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek on the 25th of March 2024 where she will continue her rehabilitation journey.

Update - 25th March 2024 : It will not be too long before Jennifer will be moved down to the outside nursery pools for her final stage of rehabilitation and to learn how to compete for fish during feeding time. These photos of Jennifer were taken on the 25th of March 2024 in the hospital pen number 3.

Update - 21st April 2024 : Jennifer was moved down to the outside rehabilitation pool for a few days but the animal care team noticed that she was not eating fish so on Saturday morning (20th April 2024), the team moved her back to the hospital to keep a close eye on Jennifer.

Update - 5th June 2024 : This photo below of Jennifer in nursery pool number 2 was taken on 31st May 2024. She is slowly putting on weight.

Update - 11th August 2024 : The weather conditions in Cornwall were perfect to release the remaining seal pup of the 2023/24 rescue season who had been staying at the Sanctuary for the past few months was released back into the wild on the 8th of August 2024 at Church Cove.
Jennifer was at a good weight and fully recovered thanks to the care and expertise of the brilliant Animal Care Team. It is such an amazing feeling for the team to see her happily "galumphing" back home. Good luck little one. Photos to follow shortly.
