Jelly was rescued on 14th December 2025

Meet Jelly, a 12+ weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from Sennen by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers.   He was found with a swollen front flipper, a bloody nose, respiratory infection, wounds to his body and malnourished.   Rescued weight 19.3kg.

After an assessment of the pup by the medics, a decision was made to take the seal to the BDMLR´s hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care.

Update - 1st January 2026 : After lots of rest and treatment at the BDMLR´s hospital, Jelly was transferred to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 29th of December 2025 to continue his rehabilitation.

Jelly is feeling much stronger and now can eat for himself, still on treatment for snottiness but bright and playful pup.   Once he is a little bigger, he can be moved to the outside nursery pools to eat lots more fish and make some friends!

Update - 28th January 2026 : Jelly was moved down to the outside nursery pools for his next stage of rehabilitation.   This means he is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.   These photos below were taken on the 28th of January 2026 in nursery pool number 4.

Pups in the nursery pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild.

His flipper tag ID number SL372 (yellow).

How you can help?

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary couldn´t do their work without you.   Every year, we rescue seal pups in need of care from around the coastline.   From wounds to entanglement to malnourishment; there are lots of reasons why seal pups might need rescuing.

Seal pups cost on average £2,000 - £3,000 to go through rehabilitation - and this doesn´t include those that require special care.
