S´mores still needs to get stronger and put on more weight before she can be released back out in to the wild, she currently weighs 21.5kg. This photo below was taken on 2nd of October 2025.
Say hello to Waffle...This gorgeous little lady was rescued by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers on the 22nd of September 2025 from Gwithian beach.
Waffle arrived with several deep wounds and one injury on her rear right flipper which has become infected, so she´ll be having an xray soon to see if surgery might be needed.
In the meantime, Waffle is also beginning to learn how to eat whole fish as she prepares for the next stage of her rehabilitation. For now, though, rest is the best medicine until she´s strong enough for her very first swim!
Waffle Update : 12th October 2025 - After an X-ray showed a broken digit on her back right flipper, Waffle went into surgery on the 6th of October 2025 to have it removed.
She did amazingly and is now recovering well in the hospital! Waffle is sporting a special green waterproof cream on her wound, so no swimming just yet, but she´s loving the hose, definitely a water baby! A huge thank you to @roseveanvets for taking such great care of her.
Pup Update : 17th October 2025 - Meringue was moved down to the outside pool on 16th of October 2025 for her next stage of rehabilitation. This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in. She currently weighs 18kg.
Pup Update : 19th October 2025 - Meet Custard, a female grey seal pup, who was rescued on the 3rd of October 2025 from Mullion Cove after being found with severe bite wounds to her rear flippers. Custard is currently on a course of antibiotics, and our animal care team is cleaning her wounds several times a day to help her heal.
For now, it´s all about lots of rest for this little one, she is taking the vet´s orders very seriously.
Pup Update : 22nd October 2025 - Meringue and S´mores are doing really well and are learning how to compete for fish which are all vital skills seal pups will need when they are released back out into the wild.
Waffle Update : 28th October 2025 - Waffle is taking a little while to graduate fisheating school!
We celebrated Willow turning 11 this month!
She absolutely loved her personalised cake...but wasn´t too keen on sharing!
On the 13th of October we celebrated our lovely Atlanta (or Attie as she´s affectionately known)
Attie is 24 today, and celebrated the special occasion with a fishy ice cake, shared with Sheba of course!

It is with huge sadness that we share the news that our dear colleague and friend, Kirk, has passed away on the 7th of October 2025.
Sarah Pegg, the Sanctuary´s General Manager, said "Many of our supporters will know Kirk, not only his dedication and hard work here at the sanctuary, but also as the star of many of our videos across social media.
Kirk was a much-loved member of our team. Never one to take himself too seriously, he had a smile for everyone, huge amounts of energy and endless humour that kept us all on our toes.
We´ll miss him enormously, and our thoughts are with Kirk´s family, friends and loved ones at this very sad time."
A huge well done and thank you to Isla, who has successfully raised £153 for the Sanctuary´s "Fund Our Future" campaign!
Isla gave a fantastic presentation at her school assembly to raise awareness of the work we do. She then took on a sponsored cycle and a litter pick to raise funds.
Isla didn´t let a few falls from her bike stop her, she got straight back on and smashed her goal! She also walked 2 miles along her local coast, picking up litter along the way, finding everything from clothing to fishing line!
We are so proud of Isla for her determination and kindness, and she´s thrilled to have made a difference for our seals and the sanctuary!
A huge round of applause for Maddy, who bravely took on a 180ft abseil earlier this month to raise money for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary´s "Fund Our Future" project!
Not only did she conquer her fear, but she also raised an incredible £1,000 for the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
Maddy said "It was a very scary 180ft, but it felt so rewarding knowing I was doing it for the Sanctuary!"

We went to check on various seal haul-outs during low tide in Cornwall this month - we hope you like our photos. Click here to see a selection of photos.
These photos were taken with Nikon Coolpix P1000 camera which contains a 3000mm zoom lens!
Each released seal pup is given a flipper tag with an unique ID number. This helps the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, the Seal Research Trust and other organisations to track and monitor where pups end up and how they are doing once they are back in the wild.
This month the following seals were spotted in the wild around south-west England:-
By monitoring the behaviour of seals after released back into the wild, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Seal Research Trust and other organisations can use this information to define the best practice standards and policies that they can share with the international rescue community.
Each seal´s fur pattern is unique and enables the organisations to track them for life.
Seals face many challenges, yet we all depend on them to balance our marine ecosystem, which is essential to make the oxygen we breathe.
Seals are our globally rare wildlife tourist attraction, helping diversify coastal economic prosperity.
Cornwall Council has recently voted unanimous for a Voluntary Ban on hollow Flying Rings on the 22nd of July 2025 and we are sure that your county wants to demonstrate that you are just as caring towards our marine life, so please push for a voluntary ban on flying rings in your areas.
This isn´t about stopping people from enjoying the beach; it´s about making a small, simple change that has a huge impact. Solid flying discs are just as fun, but unlike flying rings, they don´t pose a deadly risk to seals, dolphins, and other marine wildlife. By making the right choice, we can all help prevent the needless suffering of our coastal animals.
