Granita was rescued on 17th January 2026 Say hello to Granita, a 10-12 weeks old female grey seal pup, was rescued from Crantock beach on the 17th of January 2026 by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers.   She was found with wounds to her body and underweight. Photo Credit : Lizzi Larbalestier - BDMLR A decision was made to take the pup to the BDMLR´s hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care. These photos below were taken on the 24th of January 2026 in the BDMLR hospital. Update - 28th January 2026 : After spending a week at the BDMLR´s hospital for initial care and treatment, Granita was transferred to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 26th of January 2026 to continue her rehabilitation.   She is currently in the main hospital and will be here for a little while whilst she builds up her strength. Update - 12th February 2026 : Granita was moved down to the outside pools for her next stage of rehabilitation.   This means she is on the road to recovery and also has a deeper pool to swim in.   She currently weighs 18kg. Pups in the outside pools will be learning how to behave in the wild, interacting with other seals and also competing for their fish, which are all vital skills they will need when they are released back out into the wild. Her flipper tag ID number : SL380 (yellow). Update - 9th March 2026 : Granita has moved into the rehabilitation pool along with Cream Puff and Pancake. Update - 21st March 2026 : These photos of Granita were taken on 21st of March 2026 in the rehab pool. Update : Granita along with Cream Puff and Pancake were released back into the wild on 23rd of March 2026.
