Say hello to Gooseberry, a 12+ weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from Teignmouth, Devon, on the 27th of February 2026 by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medic volunteers. He was found with some wounds to his body and being slightly underweight. A decision was made to uplift and transport the pup to the BDMLR´s hospital in Cornwall for initial treatment and care. After spending 10 days at the BDMLR´s hospital, Gooseberry was transferred to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on the 9th of March 2026 to continue his rehabilitation.

Whilst at the BDMLR´s hospital, Gooseberry started eating after a few days for himself but he is a messy eater and hasn´t quite got the hang of it yet.

Gooseberry has sadly passed away on the 14th of March 2026; it is always very sad when one of the rescued pups dies but sometimes these little ones just don´t have enough antibodies and strength in them to pull through, despite the best efforts of all the Sanctuary´s Animal Care Specialists.
