Garlic was rescued on 24th February 2023

Garlic, a 3-4 months old female grey seal pup, was rescued on the 24th of February 2023 from Chapel Porth by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics. The seal pup was found, dehydrated and coughing with some wounds to her flippers, back and head.

She was transported to the Sanctuary´s hospital for treatment and rest via the veterinary practice of Head & Head in Helston for a clinical assessment.

Garlic is currently on medication to help with her breathing, she currently weighs 26.5kg.

Update - 5th March 2023 : Earlier this week, a loose nail had from fallen out, the animal care team are now cleaning her nailbed on a daily basis so she doesn´t get an infection in the wound.   Once Garlic is feeling better, she will be able to moved down to the outside nursery pools with the other rescued pups for her next stage of rehabilitation. Garlic currently weighs 21.5kg.

Update - 16th April 2023 : Garlic has now moved down to the outside pools for her next stage of rehabilitation, where she will learn how to compete for fish during feeding time with other rescued seal pups.   Her flipper tag ID number is SL187 (white).   Click here to see larger versions of these photos which were taken on the 15th of April 2023.
