Flamingo was rescued on 8th January 2017
Flamingo, female grey seal pup, was rescued on 8th January 2017 from the beach at Perranporth by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) team.

Two days after rescue and taken to the BDMLR´s holding facilities, she was found a space in the seal hospital at Gweek where she was found to have a high temperature, malnourished and superficial wounds to flippers and mouth.

Update - 1st February 2017 : She responded well to antibiotics and within 10 days was able to progress to the outdoor pools.

Update - 1st March 2017 : Flamingo is currently in nursery pool 3 with another seal pup named Wolf. Flamingo is progressing well and will be released back to the wild in the coming months.

Flamingo´s flipper tag number is 332 (white).

Update - 1st May 2017 : She was later treated for an ulcerated eye where she required moving back to the hospital but once again responded well to eye drops and was soon ready to continue her rehab. It took Flamingo some time to gain the necessary weight but has been thriving in a smaller group of females and was ready to go back into the wild in the coming month or so.
Seal Release - 13th June 2017 Update - 15th June 2017 : Flamingo along with Caiman, Mantis Shrimp, Fish and Lobster were released on 13th June 2017 at Dollar Cove, Gunwalloe. The planned release is a major operation involving several members of the Sanctuary team.

The rehabilitation pool was drained, and then each pup was herded into a cage and then transferred to a trailer which was then driven onto the beach to be safely released. Click here to see a selection of photos of the release.
