Egg was rescued on 8th January 2021
Egg, 5 weeks old female seal pup, was rescued on 8th January 2021 by marine mammal medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR).

She was found malnourished, underweight for her age, a suspected respiratory infection and with a very unusual coat!
Egg The chances are 1 in 400 seal pups could be born with melanism - increased development of the dark-coloured pigment melanin in the skin or hair.

And the fact she is a female makes it that much rarer, as they are naturally lighter in colour than male seals.

Update - 25th January 2021 : The pup was taken to one of the BDMLR´s holding facilities and stayed there until a pen became available on 19th January 2021 at the Sanctuary´s seal hospital.

As you can see from this and above photos, Egg is doing really well. It will not be too long before she is moved down to the outside nursery pools for her next stage of rehabilitation.

Her flipper tag ID number is SL133 (green).
Seal Release - 17th March 2021 Update - 1st March 2021 : Egg is now in the outside rehabilitation pool. She currently weighs 29kgs.

Update - 18th March 2021 : Egg along with Mayonnaise, Fish Fingers, Pie and Spud have completed their rehabilitation and were released back into the wild on 17th March 2021 at Dollar Cove.
