Dill was rescued on 20th February 2023

Dill, a 4 months old male grey seal pup, was rescued on the 20th of February 2023 from Pentire in Newquay by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics. He was struggling with his breathing, had a very high temperature and was suffering from some open wounds on his body.

The pup was taken to the BDMLR´s seal hospital for initial treatment and care until a pen was made available for him at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek on 23rd February 2023.

Dill is currently in Sanctuary´s hospital and is receiving the care needed so he can be released back into the wild. Once the team are happy with his progress, he will move out to the outside nursery pools for his next step of rehabilitation. He currently weighs 19.6kg.
Update - 5th March 2023 : Dill is now eating for himself and very much enjoying his new digs in the outside nursery pools. He loves spending time sleeping in the sunshine and when it comes to draining the pool, Dill likes to sit on the ledge so the team have no choice but to nudge him with a brush so he doesn´t get himself stuck on the ledge during his pool clean!

Dill is very observant of his surroundings and quite a nosy pup, he often stares through the window to the convalescence pool to see what the team and other seals are up to!   Flipper tag ID number is SL186 (white).
Update - 6th April 2023 : Dill (photo below right) along with Poppy Seed, Ginger, Sea Salt, Peppercorn, Kuri, Horseradish and have completed their rehabilitation at the Seal Sanctuary and were released back into the wild on the 3rd of April 2023 at Kennack Sands.   Click here to see a selection of photos.   Click here to watch a short video of the release.
