Dawn French was rescued on 26th September 2023

This unsurprisingly 4 weeks old female grey pup weighing in at 33kg, was rescued on 26th of September 2023 after she was found on the beach in Gwithian by members of the public.
Volunteer medics from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were called to go and check on the pup which had wounds to her body and an issue with her right eye.
This and another pup were relayed, both rescued at the same time, by members of the BDMLR medics to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for care, treatment and rehabilitation.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the members of the animal care team carried out a clincial assessment on the pup. The pup has been named "Dawn French" in line with the Sanctuary´s celebrity theme for the 2023/24 rescue season.
You may have noticed that the pup has one eye, this is because her right eye did not develop. She is currently receiving treatment for an infection on her flipper. Click here to see larger versions of these photos taken on 28th September 2023.

Update - 8th October 2023 : Dawn is a great size for a grey seal pup, meaning she will soon be able to have a swim. The animal care team feels she will progress quickly and her rehabilitation journey will be short before being released back into the wild.
Update - 16th October 2023 : Dawn has been living her best life down in the outside nursery pools, she has been busy learning to interact with fish and playing with ice blocks.
Dawn is maintaining a good weight and is close to release. As long as Dawn keeps mastering her fish-eating skills, once she has had her final course of wormer the team can prepare for her release.

Update - 29th October 2023 : Dawn has now completed her rehabilitation with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and will be released back into the wild in the next week or so.
Dawn´s flipper ID tag number is SL253 (yellow).
These photos below of Dawn were taken on the 27th of October 2023 in the rehab pool which she is currently sharing with another rescued seal pup named Dame Judi Dench.

Update - 20th November 2023 : Dawn has fully completed her rehabilitation and released back into the wild on the 17th of November 2023 at Dollar Cove.
