Clove was rescued on 20th December 2022

Clove, a 12 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued on the 20th of December 2022 from Crantock beach by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics.

The pup was taken to the BDMLR´s seal hospital for initial treatment and care until a pen was made available for him at the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek. He was found underweight, had an abscess on his hip and an ulcer in his eye. Also had a little bit of a snotty nose. He was prescribed a course of antibiotics.

Clove was transferred to the Sanctuary´s hospital at Gweek on the 29th of December 2022.   He currently weighs 18.9kg and in hospital pen number 4.   Once he has learnt to eat, he will be moved to the outside nursery pools.   Click here to see a selection of photos of Clove arriving at the hospital.
Update - 22nd January 2023 : Clove is learning how to swim and compete for fish during feeding time. Once he has put on a bit more weight, he will be released back into the wild.   His flipper tag ID number is SL170 (white).

Update - 10th February 2023 : Clove has completed his rehabilitation at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and was released back into the wild on 10th February 2023 at Kennack Sands.
