Clam was rescued on 16th February 2022
Clam, a 16 weeks old male grey seal pup, was rescued from Gwithian beach in St Ives Bay on 16th February 2022 by Alison, Lesley and Reef, members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics.

He was found with wounds to his body and had a major ulceration to the right eye.

Clam - photo taken on 4th March 2022 Update - 6th March 2022 : Clam will need an operation to remove his eye. This will be carried out by the Sanctuary´s local vet during this coming week. He currently weighs 23kg and is eating very well.

His flipper tag ID number is SL136 (white).
Update - 2nd April 2022 : It has now been a couple of weeks since the operation to remove Clam´s eye and he seems to be healing well.

Seals adjust very well to only having one eye. There is no reason he will not be able to live a long and happy life in the wild once he has made a full recovery.

Seal Release Update - 14th April 2022 : Clam along with Cockle, Iceberg, Moon Jellyfish, Shrimp and Wobbegong were released back into the wild on 13th April 2022 at Porthtowan beach.
