| Conservationists call for new law to protect seals
On the 9th of February 2022 a "10 Minute Rule Bill" was read highlighting the issues in Parliament.
The Seals need the same level of protection from disturbance as Whales and Dolphins.
The Seal Alliance wrote to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, congratulating the government for supporting their campaign, but stressing the need for an urgent change to the law, making deliberate seal disturbance illegal. The letter, backed by Chris Packham, was signed by over 30 conservation organisations including the Marine Conservation Society, RSPCA, Seal Protection Action Group, Seal Research Trust, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, British Divers Marine Life Rescue, and other seal research, conservation groups and seal rehabilitation centres.
Tracey Crouch, Conservative MP for Chatham and Aylesford, made the case for the bill in the Chamber.
