Blobfish was rescued on 16th March 2022
Blobfish, a 4-5 months old male grey seal pup, was rescued from St Ives Bay on 16th March 2022 by members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) marine mammal medics.

The pup was taken to the BDMLR´s Cornwall Seal Hospital for the night and then transported the next day via the vets to the Seal Sanctuary in Gweek.

Blobfish The pup was found with a large swelling from the right hand side of his jaw all the way down to his neck and had a very high temperature indicating a serious active infection. He weighed 26kg and very feisty.

The vet had prescribed a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatories, as well as fluid therapy to rehydrate the pup.
Update - 3rd April 2022 : Blobfish is now feeling much better, and the swelling has reduced significantly.

Blobfish Update - 8th May 2022 : Blob is progressing really well and will be moved down to the outside nursery pools for his next stage of rehabilitation shortly.

Update - 22nd May 2022 : Blobfish spent a couple of weeks in the outside nursery pools before being released back out into the wild on 21st May 2022 at Dollar Cove.
