| Update 1st October 2004 |
| We have had our first 2 pups in this week. The 1st named 'Roskilly' was rescued from Lamorna near Mousehole, he is eating for himself and very wriggly in good health and looking lively. The 2nd named 'Trent' is being force fed fish, but the swelling in his left flipper is going down and so is he temperature.
Now for our residents.......... Flipper and Yulelog are fighting at the moment, this is due to fact that they can smell the ladies in the convalesce pool. The Animal Care Team are keeping an eye on their behaviour. Magnus is still very hungry and can't wait for feed time. Fatima is still hanging round Magnus, but he just wants fish! Marlin can't make up his mind who he likes, and has been pursuing both Sheba and Atlanta. This has made Ray very Jealous, and poor Ray just sits on the side of the pool making a lot of noise, as he misses the company of Marlin. Atlanta is still spending lots of time on her raft. Sheba's eye is a lot better. Anneka is loving the nursery pools at the moment as the Animal Care Team have over filled them, so she spends the day jumping out the nursery pools and sliding in to the convalesce pool. Ray's hair is still growing and is coming back as a silvery colour. Flotsam and Jetsam are doing lots of playing, feeding well and their target training is going great. Rocky is doing a lot of barking, and Pepper is enjoying feed balls and conger eel tails. Serendipity’s training is going well and her feed in take has gone down, she is also walking around the enclosure a bit more. Carus on the other hand is getting fat, and will be going on a diet next week. Bamboo and Thai had their enclosure re-themed last week….all the plants have now been stripped and they are using it for bedding. The otters are having a treat this week as they will be dinning on crickets and millworms (yuck!) Two of our residents tried to break out this week. Bracken likes to push the fence that surrounds the field with his bottom, and find a weak point. This week he found it and got in to the field next door, Tuppence followed only to find this field full of goats! The goats were very unimpressed with this invasion of visitors. Our site team are now reinforcing the fence so they cannot escape again! Smartie and Bubble are gaining in confidence, but are picky when it comes to dinner time. These fussy seals only like sardines. So the Animal Care Team have had to order extra sardines in. We have had more sightings of the pups we released this year. Monty (No. 15) has been seen swimming off the eastern isles of Scilly, and playing with a large group of grey seals. Morgan (No. 2) has also been sighted around this area. |
