Update : 27th October 2010 - Capello started hand feeding today. It is unusual that a seal pup would take 2 months to hand feed; however Capello's injuries to his mouth may have caused him discomfort while eating.
Capello Update : 15th November 2010 - Capello is feeding for himself now! This is great progress in the rehabilitation programme. Soon he will be going into our pup pool, a bigger and deeper enclosure so he can swim around.

Update : 23rd November 2010 : Capello is still feeding very nicely, and he was moved into the pup pool today.
Update : 15th December 2010 - A.Cole joined Capello in our pup pool today. Capello has not seen another seal for just less than 4 months now, and the two snarled at each other a couple of times - but now they're best friends! Capello
CapelloUpdate : 28th December 2010 - Capello was moved into our outside resident pool with Sally, Amber and Tyne - our resident seals. This is the last stage in the rehabilitation programme, where he will learn to compete for food with the larger, quicker, adult seals and build the skills he needs to survive in the wild.
Update : 9th January 2011 - After a long stay with us, Capello was finally released today along with his pool-mate A.Cole, at a local and quiet beach.
He weighed 30kg.

It has been about 4 months since Capello has last seen the sea! As soon as he saw the sea, he poked his head out of the stretcher and waited patiently for the stretcher to be untied.
Capello
CapelloHe entered the water and stayed near the coast for approximately 5 minutes, then headed out towards the sand banks to find the colony!

As he disappeared he looked back towards the beach once at staff of our animal care team: Chris and Hollie (AKA Doris).
