Otterly in love!

Asian short-clawed otter pair, Apricot and Harris are still very much in love as they approach their one year anniversary together at the Sanctuary.

Their love story began when they were introduced on the 31st March 2016; the pair have been inseparable ever since.

Apricot Apricot (photo left) was born at Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary on the 24th of July 2004, and moved to Birmingham Sea Life with her sister Mango on 15th of March 2005.

In 2015, Apricot and Mango began to have difficulties as Asian Short-Clawed Otters usually have one dominant female within a territory. This led to Apricot moving to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary so both otters could have their own space.
Harris (photo right) was born in April 2010 and came to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in March 2016. You can tell the difference between the two as Harris has extremely long whiskers.

Harris originally came from Welsh Mountain Zoo, Conwy. Unfortunately the rest of his family were showing some aggression towards him as he was the runt of the litter, so he moved to the sanctuary to pair up with Apricot.

Apricot and Harris The two immediately got on really well and when they aren't snuggled up together in their Holt for a nap, they are often seen running around their enclosure together!

Grace Jones, Junior animal care assistant said "Apricot had to undergo some dental work recently, which involved her spending most of the day at the vets. When she returned to the sanctuary Harris was so relieved he gave her his rations of his feed!"
To celebrate the adorable otter duo, from 11th - 19th March 2017 the Sanctuary will be holding an Otter Week where they will be educating guests about their Asian short-clawed Otter duo.

There will be some fantastic talks and feeds scheduled, as well as a fun otter word search for the kids and a chance to be entered into a competition to win an otter feeding session with a member of the animal care team!
